Bel Burgess keeps winning streak going

Wednesday 5 April 2017, 5:33pm

The best form of advertising in horse racing is to keep winning races.

As trainer Michael Roebuck is about to move into new on-course stables at Geelong, in-form gelding Bel Burgess recorded a fourth straight win when successful in the Le Pine Funerals Handicap at Sandown on Wednesday.

Roebuck hopes the success of Bel Burgess can lead to an increase in numbers when he moves into his new headquarters.

After branching out on his own around five years ago, the one-time foreman for Caulfield trainer Mick Price is now looking to Saturday city success with Bel Burgess.

The gelding has graduated from a benchmark 58 grade win at Echuca to successive benchmark 64 wins at Ballarat and Moonee Valley before his Sandown win in benchmark 70 grade.

Roebuck said the $250,000 VOBIS Gold Reef (1600m) on April 22 was a consideration although a benchmark 78 grade race on the same day is more likely to be his next start.

"It's pretty competitive and you need to be seen winning races and he's a good advertisement for my stable," Roebuck said.

"Four wins in a row is not easy to do these days unless you've got a Winx.

"He's flying this horse and he should go on as he's got a good race record.

"When they're lightly raced and have a good record like his, they keep on improving."
