Steve O'Dea has produced one of the best training efforts of his career with Sir Moments' win in the Listed Sunshine Coast Cup.

Sir Moments had not won since last April and O'Dea has had to nurse him through injury problems and a loss of form.

But Sir Moments ($7) showed he was back near his best when he out-slogged Flamboyer ($9) to win Saturday's 1400m-race by a short neck with a long neck to In His Stride ($9) in third place.

"I thought he was a Doomben Cup chance when he was second to Leebaz in the Hollindale Cup two years ago but then he got injured on the water walker and didn't make Doomben," O'Dea said.

"When we got him back he got sick and spent a couple of weeks at the vets. We got him back again to where he was ready to take on Melbourne class in September but he was ordinary in the Bobby Lewis Stakes."

O'Dea brought Sir Moments back from Melbourne and set him for the Magic Millions Cup at the Gold Coast where he was a well beaten ninth two weeks ago.

"But we kept going with him and today was the right grade of race for him. He is a hard horse to place because he isn't up to the really good horses but is rated out of the lesser races," O'Dea said.

"I haven't really thought about his future but rather was concentrating on today. I will have to see what is available here."

Jockey Damian Browne confirmed his rating as the "King of The Sunshine Coast" with his ride on Sir Moments.

"He is a funny horse because you don't want to hit the lead too quickly on him. Flamboyer kept kicking back but so did he," Browne said.

Trainer Kelly Doughty was left to rue that rain did not hit the Sunshine Coat for noted wet track horse Flamboyer.

"At our home track at the Gold Coast it was a heavy nine but there was not a drop here. But still it was another whole hearted effort by him to lead almost all of the way," Doughty said.

Earlier the late owner-breeder Jack O'Hagan was remembered when Secret Mo ($6) made it two wins from two starts in the 1000m-race for three-year-olds.

O'Hagan, who died in December 2015, was a leading figure in the Queensland racing industry for more than 60 years.

Lindsay Gough trained many of O'Hagan's winners and now has Secret Mo for O'Hagan's children.

"Jack felt Secret Mo was the nicest horse he had ever bred and he might be right. It means something when Jack had a lot of good horses including Star Acclaim, Roman Squire and Stradon to name a few," Gough said.
