Tegan Harrison to ride for NSW in Origin

Monday 19 December 2016, 11:07am

Tegan Harrison has been called into the NSW team to help defend a big lead as the State of Origin jockeys series goes into its second round.

Michael Rodd rode the winners of both heats in the first round at Eagle Farm on December 10 to help NSW to 24 points and a big lead.

However, Rodd, who is based in Singapore, is on a family holiday and unavailable for Doomben on Saturday.

Tim Clark who rode a third and an unplaced runner on the first day is also unavailable.

Harrison will be joined by Tye Angland who rode in the series last year.

"I have been based in Queensland for years but I was born and raised in the Northern Rivers. I am looking forward to Saturday but I think the others will be keen to catch us," Harrison said.

A Racing Queensland spokesman said the other confirmed visiting riders would be Brad Rawiller and Chris Symons (Victoria), Dylan Dunn and Noel Callow (South Australia), and Brad and Chris Parnham (Western Australia).

Damian Browne will be one of the riders for New Zealand with the other to be confirmed.

"There was plenty of interest in the first round with UBET's turnover up by about 20 per cent on Brisbane racing," the spokesman said.

The final round of the UBET sponsored series will be at the Gold Coast on January 7.

The points after the first round are NSW (24), Queensland (9), New Zealand (9), Victoria (4), South Australia (4) and Western Australia (4).
