Another Munce after Millions magic

Sunday 18 December 2016, 2:43pm

Chris Munce is after his fourth win in the Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic but another member of his family has a 100 per cent record in the big race.

The trainer, who won the race three times as a jockey, has two of the top Classic hopefuls in Ours To Keep and Champ Elect who won stakes races at Doomben on Saturday.

Ours To Keep ran fast time tp win the Phelan Ready Stakes and is now $9 third favourite for the $2 million race on January 14 with filly Champ Elect at $11.

The colt is part-owned by Munce's wife Cathy who was also a co-owner of Brave Warrior who won the Classic in 1994.

Chris Munce was supposed to ride Brave Warrior but was hurt in a fall on the day and Neil Williams took the winning ride.

Munce admits he could not have been so successful as a jockey or made the change to training without the backing of Cathy.

"She is fantastic and knows the racing game like the back of her hand," Munce said.

Cathy Munce only took a share in Ours To Keep when the clients who had originally wanted him pulled out.

"Ours To Keep is a real athlete. He is built like Mike Tyson and floats like Usian Bolt," Munce said.

The colt's outstanding form is also a boost for Banchory Stud's Marylee Trivett who stands Ours To Keep's sire Seidnazar.

A Rory's Jester stallion Seidnazar, who was placed in the Group One Blue Diamond as a two-year-old, has had a steady stream of winners since going to stud but Ours To Keep could well be the best.
