Strangles ban lifted in Ballarat stables

Saturday 10 December 2016, 12:27pm

Stewards have lifted the ban on another of Matt Cumani's barns at Ballarat, allowing the trainer to have more racehorses return to training.

A case of strangles detected last month in the Cumani yard saw his stable quarantined.

Horses in the stable of James Wardeiner were also banned using Ballarat's training facilities.

Racing Victoria stewards on Friday allowed one barn of Cumani's and the stables of Wardeiner to rejoin the horse population at Ballarat after tests for strangles were negative.

A further barn of Cumani's three was cleared on Saturday while the third is still classified as infected and quarantine restrictions remain in place.

RV are still awaiting test results on the third barn.
