Weather no worry for Beatniks

Friday 9 December 2016, 4:19pm

Honest mare Beatniks is one of the few runners in Saturday's Listed Just Now Quality who won't be affected by Brisbane's weather lottery.

Beatniks indicated she was back in form when she resumed with a strong third in the Listed Colin McAlpine Memorial Stakes at Eagle Farm two weeks ago.

Brisbane has been hammered by thunderstorms this week and more are predicted for Saturday.

However, there has also been severe heat which has helped drying, making predicting the track rating a nightmare for punters and trainers alike.

Trainer Steve O'Dea is in an enviable position with Beatniks who can handle both dry and wet tracks.

"Beatniks is a six-year-old mare so like everyone else I would love to get a black type win for her. She has been placed at Group Three and Listed class and her last run was strong," O'Dea said.

""Her soft track form includes three wins so at least she handles it where a few others don't."

"Also she has two wins and two minor placings from four starts at 1300 metres."

Beatniks has been a mainstay of O'Dea's stable winning six races and $242,000 more than repaying her $30,000 purchase price.
