Outback Saga at crossroads

Friday 11 November 2016, 2:53pm

Prolific central Queensland winner Outback Saga will be at the crossroads of her career when she makes her return to Brisbane.

Outback Saga did her early racing in south east Queensland where she won at the Sunshine Coast and Doomben before going to Rockhampton trainer Kevin Hansen.

She won five races in a row earlier this year and in June was given her chance in the Rockhampton Newmarket in which she ran fifth.

Outback Saga has since been transferred to Eagle Farm trainer Kelly Schweida for another attempt at metropolitan racing.

"There wasn't much left for her in central Queensland and they sent her to me. She won those five races and then she wasn't far behind some handy Brisbane horses in the Newmarket," Schweida said.

He accepted with Outback Saga in two races at Doomben on Saturday but elected to run her in the Benchmark 80 (1050m).

"I think the 1000 metres is more to her liking at this stage of her campaign. I will wait to see how she goes before we decide which path she takes," he said.

"There are some fillies and mares black-type races which would be ideal but if they look too strong we will head to something easier.

Schweida will have a good hand on Saturday with Rockhampton Cup winner Ruling Force returning to racing in the Open Hcp (1350m).

"There are a couple of 1600 metre feature races this summer which should suit him," Schweida said.
