Matthew Dunn trains fourth Highway winner

Saturday 5 November 2016, 4:34pm

A long trip to Sydney has taken no toll on Sunny Fame who won Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn his fourth Highway Handicap.

Sunny Fame, a $4.40 chance, won Saturday's Highway Handicap (1550m) by a head from the $4 favourite Cliff with Whirlwind Ascent ($10) finishing third.

While his wife Kiera represented the stable in its first three Highway wins this season, Dunn made the trek from their base on the NSW-Queensland border to Canterbury to see Sunny Fame emerge victorious.

"We wanted to figure out the best way to do it before we rushed a whole lot of horses down and ran in these races," Dunn said.

"Coming down here gives us a really good opportunity to split some of these horses up."

The trainer said jockey Josh Parr gave Sunny Fame a polished ride, winding the horse up in the straight.

"We wanted to concentrate on making sure he made it to the front as late as possible today - which he did," he said.

Dunn said Sunny Fame had earned a spell and would return in February for the Country Championships series.
