Chris Munce produces another Millions hope

Saturday 5 November 2016, 2:24pm

Chris Munce thas taken another step towards becoming the first to ride and train a Magic Millions Classic winner after his filly Champ Elect's win at Doomben.

Champ Elect, was backed from $2.10 to $1.85, but gave her backers nervous moments before scoring by a nose to Catalina Miss ($21) on Saturday.

Munce, who won the Millions Classic as a jockey on Sunblazer, Dance Hero and Excellerator, would love to take the race in his new role as a trainer.

He already has the smart recent Doomben winner Ours To Keep on the Millions trial.

Champ Elect, who cost $95,000 as a yearling at the Magic Millions sales, is a grand daughter of one of Munce's favourite horses in Vouvray on who he won the 2004 Queensland Oaks.

"Champ Elect has a bit more to learn but on her breeding she should get further. I know she only just got there today but they had a gap to the rest of them," Munce said.

"I will see how she pulls up and then set a Millions programme which should include some stakes races in the summer."
