Jeff Lloyd sets record pace

Friday 4 November 2016, 3:46pm

Premiership-winning jockey Jeff Lloyd has ridden his 50th overall winner for the season to remain on course to break several records.

Lloyd won on promising galloper Sir Donald at Ipswich on Thursday to hold his lead in the Queensland and Brisbane jockeys' premierships.

He is also a clear second on the Australian jockeys's title behind Perth's William Pike.

After the first quarter of the 2016-17 racing season, he is well placed to set a record for wins in the Queensland and the Brisbane premiershi.

The now retired jockey Chris Munce holds both records at 158 (state) and 103 (Brisbane) set in 2011-12.

Lloyd, 55, became the oldest jockey to win the Brisbane premiership last season and his 36 wins this year have him at $1.50 to set a new age mark.

However, he is not getting carried away with his early success.

"There is a long way to go and there are some very good jockeys here,." he said.

Lloyd has seven rides at Doomben on Saturday including favourites Better Land and Prompt Return.
