Jockeys do their bit for Cup day charity

Tuesday 1 November 2016, 1:41pm

Jockey Tye Angland took a moment to step away from the track at Randwick to set up his own barber shop, bringing along his clippers and razors to help raise money for charity.

Injured jockey Jake Pracey-Holmes had been growing his beard and hair for 10 months and had everything but a bushy moustache shaved off by Angland at Randwick on Tuesday.

The jockey who has been in recovery since August after fracturing his vertebra in a race fall at Dubbo, said he had so far raised $4500 to be split between the National Jockeys Trust and the Cancer Council.

"It is funny because I am an injured jockey at the moment. I still can't move my neck fully," Pracey-Holmes told AAP.

Fellow jockeys and Pracey-Holmes' family gathered around the Octagonal lawn to support the jockey as locks of hair fell on to the ground.

"Can I just give you one tip" Angland said.

"Don't go hanging out in the sun all day with this hair cut."

While jockey Jason Collett thought Pracey-Holmes looked "better" hairless, the jockey said he felt "itchy and cold".

"Can I take my top off and get it all off me?" he asked.

Pracey-Holmes said he hopes to return to the track in two months.
