Winning feeling again for Peter Moody

Saturday 22 October 2016, 4:18pm

Champion mare Black Caviar's trainer Peter Moody has returned to the winner's circle, albeit on the other side of the fence.

A filly bred by Moody and his wife Sarah won the Group Two Fillies Classic at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Moody trained about 2500 winners, including 53 at Group One level.

But Saturday marked his first group win as an owner since he called time on his training career in March.

Moody proudly stepped in for his wife to accept the owners' accolades after Nurse Kitchen's victory.

He admitted it was a weird feeling to win as an owner rather than a trainer.

"It is but a wonderful feeling," he said.

Black Caviar brought Moody international acclaim but the trainer walked away from his 300-horse training operation rather than return from a six-month cobalt suspension.

Moody gave jockey Kerrin McEvoy a bear hug after the win.

Trainer David Brideoake declared Moody to be a very good owner

"He leaves it totally up to us," Brideoake said.

While Moody opted not to return to training when his suspension ended in September, he has taken on roles as racing manager for Rosemont Stud and a consultant for syndicator Wylie Dalziel Roy Higgins Racing.

As for Nurse Kitchen, the filly will have a break before returning for a tilt at the Oaks races in the autumn.

"She's got a pretty deep pedigree so I think she's going to be a lovely, staying filly and hopefully she can develop into an Oaks filly for David and the team in the autumn," Moody said.
