Weights to rise in Melbourne Cup

Melbourne Cup favourite Jameka will have to carry 54.5 kilograms in the big race with weights to rise one kilogram in the absence of Preferment.

Trainer Chris Waller says Preferment, who is topweight with 56.5kg, will not run and instead go the the Emirates Mackinnon over 2000 metres on the final day of the Melbourne Cup carnival.

The topweight in the Cup must carry 57kg with English horse Big Orange and Our Ivanhowe next in the handicaps on 56kg.
