Zenalicious causes Reginald Allen boilover

Saturday 24 September 2016, 3:11pm

Being ignored has paid dividends for trainer Les Bridge after Zenalicious' upset win in the Reginald Allen Quality.

Zenalicious settled last in Saturday's Listed race over 1400m at Rosehill with jockey Tim Clark guiding her down the rail at the top of the straight.

When daylight appeared off the fence at the 200m, Zenalicious charged to the front to beat $4.20 favourite Invincibella by a length.

Zenalicious set a class record at 1 minute and 22.56 seconds - 10 days after winning a Warwick Farm maiden at her third start.

"I told them she was good the other day but nobody listened to me," Bridge said.

That had one major advantage for Bridge - he was able to secure $18 about Zenalicious who eventually started the $16 rank outsider in the nine-horse field.

"That was good. I haven't had a bet for ages," he said.

A trip to Melbourne beckons for the three-year-old filly, who Bridge believes will be better over further distances.

But he is happy to patiently wait for her next start.

"She's had three runs in two weeks," Bridge said.

"She backed up Wednesday to Wednesday, had ten days to today.

"I'll just have to think what I do to her now. I don't want to kill her."
