Mahuta makes up one-quarter of Darren Weir's Memsie Stakes crew, one-third of the stable's single-figure chances, but carries all the hopes of one of the bigger ownership groups that will be at Caulfield on Saturday.

Roll The Dice Racing are involved in the four-year-old entire, who burst onto the racing scene with six straight wins from October through to February, the streak finally ending in the Group 1 Australian Guineas.

On the way, the plucky on-pacer picked up two Group 2s and a Group 3, and collected the riches from the Magic Millions Guineas.

On Saturday, he dips the hoof in again in Group 1 company looking to fulfill every race owner's dream, especially that of Roll The Dice syndicators Leigh Saville and Steve Travaglia.

Like any syndicate, the idea is to make ownership more affordable and appealing - Mahuta's a walking billboard in that regard, turning a $35,000 purchase into upwards of $1.7million in stakes.

Mahuta worked over 800m on the Ballarat hill track on Tuesday, and Saville said Weir was happy with his charge's work and all is set for his grand final this campaign.

It will be a big day for Irish hoop John Allen, whose rise through the flat-riding ranks has been phenomenal.

Allen, renowned for his prowess over the obstacles, has also struck the big time on the flat, winning a Group 1 for Weir aboard Howard Be Thy Name in the SA Derby earlier this year.

With Mahuta's regular hoop Brad Rawiller opting to stick with the Cox Plate-bound Black Heart Bart, Allen's regained the ride on Mahuta - previously partnering the horse to his six-length maiden win at Kyneton in October.

Allen's first Australian G1 ride came in last year's Memsie for Weir, when he finished last aboard 80-1 chance Dandino - but the picture is a bit different for the popular hoop in 2016.

Mahuta is a $6 second favourite for the $500,000 feature, with his stablemates Black Heart Bart($2.60) and Palentino ($7) filling the top-three lines in the market.

With all the speed drawn barriers one, two and three - Mahuta is sandwiched between Lord of the Skyand Charmed Harmony - connections expect to take a sit, rather than get into any race within a race.

Of course, the ultimate tactical decision rests with Weir, and and the trainer's master track walker Peter Ellis.

Meanwhile, the RTD team and their Mahuta hats will fill the mounting yard, dreaming of snaring a Group 1 with their bargain buy.
