His Majesty reigns supreme at Rosehill

Saturday 13 August 2016, 5:18pm

A dashing first-up win from His Majesty has trainer Kim Waugh planning to tackle the Group Three Cameron Handicap.

Third in the $500,000 Provincial Championship at Randwick in April, His Majesty ($8) broke through for his first win on a Sydney track in the 1100m benchmark handicap at Rosehill on Saturday.

After it looked as if His Majesty might have run out of luck, a gap emerged for jockey Tim Clark at the 150m mark.

He denied Godolphin horse Sarajevo ($8) by a nose, with Savoureux ($26) a short neck away in third.

"I was cheering and I think I pushed my foreman into the garden," Waugh said.

"He was still last at the furlong and I just thought, 'My god, this is just going to be a great run', but to get through and win was unbelievable."

Waugh said His Majesty would be set for the Cameron Handicap (1350m) at Newcastle on September 16.

Clark said the lightly raced seven-year-old showed an electric turn of foot.

"He gave me the feel of a really good-quality galloper," Clark said.

A full brother to multiple Group One placegetter Puissance De Lune, His Majesty is also a striking grey.

"He's got a lot to live up to hasn't he?" Waugh said.
