Russian Revolution takes out Vain Stakes

Saturday 13 August 2016, 3:45pm

Russian Revolution has given the Peter and Paul Snowden stable a consolation win with success in a stakes race at Caulfield.

The stable's big gun, Golden Slipper winner Capitalist, was having the first run of his spring campaign but finished out of the money in the San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

Russian Revolution was a heavily backed $1.95 favourite in the Group Three Vain Stakes at Caulfield and didn't let his army of supporters down.

Ridden by Mark Zahra, Russian Revolution held off an unlucky Highland Beat ($9.50) by a long neck, with Hardham ($13) a short-head away in third.

Russian Revolution's victory kept his record intact after scoring on debut at Canterbury in June and following up with a Randwick success later in the month.

With the Snowdens remaining in Sydney overseeing Capitalist and a large team of Rosehill runners, racing manager Jackson Beers headed to Melbourne.

He said the stable had always held a high opinion of the Snitzel colt, which is likely to return to Melbourne in two weeks for the HDF McNeil Stakes at Caulfield.

"They keep raising the bar and he keeps jumping over it," Beers said.

"He's a green horse, still learning his trade and he had to do it out there on his own and they had their chance to get him, but couldn't get there."

Beers said Russian Revolution would likely return to Sydney before the McNeil Stakes.

Russian Revolution shortened from $15 to $11 for the Golden Rose in September and the colt is also among entries for the Caulfield Guineas in October.
