Things finally go Rare Occurrence's way

Saturday 13 August 2016, 2:00pm

Unlucky filly Rare Occurrence is likely to race on after finally having things go her way with a win at Eagle Farm.

Rare Occurrence ($15) travelled three and four deep for most of the trip before beating Mishani Sleuth ($14) by a half-neck in the three-year-old handicap over 1200m on Saturday.

The filly won her first race start last October in very impressive fashion but nothing much has gone right since.

Trainer Stuart Kendrick said he had high hopes for Rare Occurrence in this year's Magic Millions Two Year Old Classic.

"But she tore a muscle and we had a battle to get her to the Millions. She did run but she wasn't at her best," Kendrick said.

Rare Occurrence raced through the winter carnival but had no luck.

"I'm glad she's won today as things just kept going wrong. When she was three and four deep today I thought, 'Here we go again'," Kendrick said.

"I would like to give her one more run and if she can win another Saturday race, she will have done a very good job," Kendrick said.

Mishani Sleuth did a good job after having to charge forward to be on the pace from a wide barrier, according to apprentice Matt McGillivray.

O'Reilly Cyrus ($6.50) lost no fans for her likely Sydney carnival trip, coming in third half a length back.

"I would like to see her with a better barrier and a bit longer journey," jockey Paul Hammersley said.
