O'Dea puts Best Case forward at Eagle Farm

Thursday 11 August 2016, 12:30pm

Trainer Steve O'Dea's regime of tough love with rejuvenated galloper Best Case is set to reap another reward at Eagle Farm.

Provided he continues to please O'Dea , Best Case, who scored his first win since November 2014 at Eagle Farm last week, will back up in the Country Music Race Day Open Hcp (2200m).

Originally trained by Anthony Cummings in Sydney, Best Case finished third in the 2014 Group One South Australian Derby.

The now six-year-old was bought earlier this year by the Aquis Farm syndicate to race in Queensland.

O'Dea trains for Aquis from their property at Canungra, in the Gold Coast hinterland, and his Eagle Farm stable.

After a disappointing run at Doomben last month, O'Dea decided to change tactics with Best Case.

"I sent him from our Eagle Farm stables to the property where we also put him over the jumps. It seemed to do the track and he was far too good for them at 1800 metres last week," O'Dea said.

He said he was keen to get Best Case out to middle distance racing.

"The South Australian Derby was 2500 metres but we don't go much further than 2200 in Brisbane," he said.

O'Dea will also saddle Spurtonic and Mr One Eleven for Aquis in the Moet & Chandon Hcp(1400m).

Spurtonic, a former Sydney stakes class performer, trialled well at Deagon last month before being a well beaten eighth first up at Doomben two weeks ago.

Mr One Eleven is more noted as a 1600m-2000m horse but has won second-up and was an impressive trial winner at Deagon last week.
