Back-up likely for Sandown runner-up

Wednesday 10 August 2016, 5:11pm

Winta Chiller is likely to make her second racetrack appearance in three days in a fillies and mares race at Caulfield.

The Shawn Mathrick-trained mare was beaten a nose as favourite in a 1600m-race at Sandown on Wednesday and is an acceptor at Caulfield on Saturday.

And Mathrick is favouring running the mare again over the same distance as long as she recovers well.

"It's been that long since she's won a race that she probably doesn't know how to win," Mathrick said.

"She was going to get there easily then but probably the six kilogram weight difference told when you're trying to peg back that inch or two."

Sent out the $4.40 favourite, Winta Chiller, ridden by Dwayne Dunn, was beaten a nose by Show Us Your Tatts ($11).

Dunn takes the ride again on Saturday.

"We'll see how she pulls up and recovers," Mathrick said.

"I've been thinking for a while that a back-up would quite possibly help her.

"I don't do a lot of work with her so at this stage she'll definitely go around."

Winta Chiller has won four of her 43 starts with her most recent victory at Pakenham in November last year.
