Veteran jockey Glen Colless has bounced back from a health scare to claim a winning double for trainer Kelly Schweida at Doomben.

Colless, who won the Group One BTC Cup on Malaguerra in the winter, couldn't have picked a better day to show his skills with a crowd of 15,000 on hand for the annual Mekka Day (Exhibition Wednesday) at Doomben.

The jockey was distressed after winning on Beloso at Eagle Farm on Saturday but got a medical clearance to ride on Wednesday.

Colless used the inside barrier to perfection to win a maiden on Ledoyen ($9) and followed that with a clever ride to come from an outside barrier to win on promising filly Love A Rose ($4).

"Saturday was just a matter of not having ridden for a fortnight and getting down to 54 kilograms," Colless said.

"But it is hard to keep a good man down."

Schweida has a very big opinion of Love A Rose who he bought as yearling for $45,000 and formed a syndicate which included several of the owners who raced top sprinter Agitate with him.

"She is very well bred and her half brother Super Winner has won 11 races in Singapore. I was offered the younger half brother but let him go. Maybe I shouldn't have," Schweida said.

"Love A Rose is still very immature but it was a good win. Not many come from outside barriers and win at the 1050 metre start at Doomben."

"I scratched her last week because of a bad barrier and felt I couldn't do it again, so it worked out thanks to Glen's ride."

Schweida believes Ledoyen, who is raced by leading Queensland owners Michael Buys and Rob Wills, can go on to win more races with experience.

Premier trainer Tony Gollan is looking at stepping Sentimental Prince ($4) up in class after his win in the Class 2 (2050m).

"There aren't a lot of stayers around and he had 58kg today. I think we can safely step him up in class and get some weight relief in staying race," Gollan said.
