Side Glance to parade at Ascot

Thursday 21 July 2016, 8:46am

The much-travelled Side Glance, a Group One winner in Australia, will be among the retired stars on display at Ascot on King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes day.

The now nine-year-old won the 2013 Mackinnon Stakes during the Melbourne Cup carnival and finished third in the Caulfield Stakes the following year.

The Andrew Balding-trained gelding was retired last year because of injury.

Following his retirement, Side Glance's owner Sheikh Fahad gifted him to Balding's assistant Leanne Masterton who had looked after him on his travels.

He has been re-trained by Sarah Friend to go eventing and hunting.

"He has made really good progress in his re-training, for which a lot of thanks go to Sarah for the work she has done with him," Masterton said.

"Being such a striking and handsome horse, the plan is to do some showing with him and he should be ready to do a class or two in the near future."

Saturday's parade of retired horses included Purple Moon, second to Efficient in the 2007 Melbourne Cup.
