Brisbane jockeys' title to go to the wire

Thursday 7 July 2016, 9:42am

The Brisbane jockeys's premiership remains on a knife edge with apprentice James Orman's appeal against a careless riding suspension likely to have a major impact.

Jeff Lloyd leads the premiership on 67 winners from Orman on 66 and Jim Byrne on 65-1/2 with seven metropolitan meetings remaining in the season.

Orman, who rode a treble at Eagle Farm on Wednesday, is riding on a stay of proceedings after being suspended for 11 days on June 18.

His appeal will be heard on Friday morning.

"I am prepared for the appeal and I know I will get a fair hearing. I think I have a good case but it will remain to be seen," Orman said.

The 19-year-old already has the state title wrapped up with 138 wins for the season, 17 short of Chris Munce's record.

All three premiership contenders have strong books of rides on Saturday and have been helped by senior rider Robbie Fradd's decision to take a short holiday.

Fradd, who is visiting friends in Singapore, would have had several of the rides which have now gone to the trio.
