Lord Von Costa to debut for new stable

Sunday 19 June 2016, 4:52pm

Trainer Stephen Brown is looking forward to recent addition Lord Von Costa making his debut for his stable at Flemington.

Lord Von Costa finished a close second at Flemington last Saturday week at his seventh career start and has since been transferred from Albury trainer and part-owner Graham Hulm to Flemington-based Brown.

The three-year-old has one win and six placings to his credit and Brown is excited to have him as part of his team heading to Saturday's meeting.

Brown said Lord Von Costa would run second-up against his own age in Saturday's 1100m race which is a heat of the A R Creswick Series.

"Part-owner Donna Scott and her father Graham Hulm, who trained him, we're pretty good friends," Brown said.

"And Ash Beer, who rides trackwork for me, is good friends with Donna. They sent him down and ran him at Flemington.

"Because it's been so wet in Albury and they think he does go all right, she wants him to have every chance so she's entrusted him to us."

Brown thinks Lord Von Costa has a Listed or Group race win in him and was impressed when he rode him work on Saturday morning.

"I think he's a good horse," Brown said.

"I rode him in a gallop and he felt enormous. I can't fault him.

"He's a lovely big horse. We're going to have a lot of fun with him."

Brown said Lord Von Costa could head to the final of the Creswick Series, a Listed 1200m race at Flemington on July 9, if things go to plan on Saturday.

Stephen Baster, who rode the gelding first-up, will retain the ride on Saturday.
