Last Wish....Just!

An inspired decision by Tony McEvoy to send handy stayer LAST WISH south to his Melbourne stable paid immediate dividends on Wednesday at Sandown for Proven Thoroughbreds.

Second-up over 2400m, the son of Guillotine was shunned in the market after finishing down the course on a HEAVY track at Rosehill first-up.

However, appreciating the return to firm footing and a daring ride by young Dylan Dunn, the gelding swept into the race from the 900 metres, loomed on straightening and clung to a narrow lead on the line. McEvoy thought the opportunities in Melbourne outweighed the gamble on Sydney's erratic summer weather which has seen a number of meetings either abandoned or washed out mid-programme.

LAST WISH has now saluted 3 times in town (4 all up) and his great stamina will stand him in good stead over the coming weeks down south. No fancy plans are set but a race like the Adelaide Cup on MAR 14 may not be out of the question. McEvoy will monitor how he comes through this hard run before committing to his next start.
