Dylan Dunn guides Snoopy to first-up win

Saturday 23 January 2016, 3:12pm

Top jockey Dwayne Dunn had to make way for his son Dylan on talented colt Snoopy at Moonee Valley, with the promising apprentice guiding the three-year-old to a first-up win.

Dwayne Dunn had ridden the colt in his six starts but connections opted to use Dylan's 3kg claim in Saturday's Hille's Home Extensions Handicap.

Snoopy, in his first start since finishing 10th in the Group One Caulfield Guineas in the spring, proved too good from his rivals and maintained an unbeaten first-up record from three attempts as he raced to a 2-1/4 length win.

The apprentice hopes it will be a springboard to bigger races.

"Today was just a good starting race," Dunn said.

After beginning well Snoopy was ridden with cover before Dunn angled out on the turn.

Once balanced up, the $3 favourite kicked clear to beat Challenge Accepted ($11) with Danuki ($4.80) a half head away third.

Dunn, who said his father gave him insight into the horse, was impressed by the way Snoopy found the line.

"In his previous races I haven't seen quite that turn of foot that he gave me today," he said.
