Schofield lodges appeal over suspension

Friday 22 January 2016, 3:40pm

Glyn Schofield will appeal the severity of a five-week ban for failing to ride out Springbok Flyer before the stayer's defeat in a photo-finish.

Springbok Flyer was beaten a short head at Warwick Farm on Wednesday and stewards found Schofield had stopped riding his mount two strides before the winning post.

Schofield's appeal will be heard next Friday with his ban starting after he rides at Randwick on Saturday.

The ban threatens Schofield's association with two prized early autumn chances, including Boban, the Sydney sprinter-miler due to resume in the C F Orr Stakes at Caulfield on February 13.

Schofield also had the inside running to ride Blue Diamond Stakes fancy Extreme Choice.

He partnered Extreme Choice in a Randwick win last month that vaulted the Mick Price-trained two-year-old towards the top of Blue Diamond Stakes betting.

Victoria's richest juvenile race, the Blue Diamond and Orr Stakes will be run at Caulfield a day before Schofield's ban expires on February 28.

Schofield has four Randwick rides, including Madame De Ban, a three-year-old filly unbeaten in two bush starts who contests the Highway Handicap.
