Treble continues Gollan's record pace

Wednesday 20 January 2016, 6:20pm

Premier trainer Tony Gollan's Ipswich treble has kept him on course to break a record once considered a pipedream in Queensland.

Gollan has 51 metropolitan wins for the season and is rapidly closing in on the Brisbane training record of 79 winners he set last term.

He also has six months left to achieve the feat of becoming the first trainer to reach 100 metropolitan wins in a Brisbane season.

"I always say our job is to produce winners and not worry about records," Gollan said.

Gollan's midweek wins came via favourites Majella Magic ($3) and Bourbon Road ($2.40) and $8 chance Bernitchy.

Majella Magic, who is owned by the Huddy family which has enjoyed success with Group One winners Shoot Out and Preferment, was having her first start for Gollan after doing her early racing in Sydney.

"She had been running against pretty good company and was suited down in class," Gollan said.

Bourbon Road was well beaten in the Magic Millions Maiden at his previous start in a performance that shocked Gollan.

"After the Millions run I didn't know if he was ready for the paddock or the winning post," Gollan said.

"Now he has won I might give him his chance in a three-year-old, 1600 metre race at Doomben."

Bernitchy has struggled with breathing problems for most of his career but bounced back to his top after a recent operation.

"He will also probably head back to Saturday class now he has struck form," Gollan said.

Former top jockey Chris Munce celebrated 12 months as a trainer with the win of Faiconi ($3.80) at Ipswich.

Munce, who took out a trainers' licence in January last year, has 30 horses in work and Faiconi was his 26th career winner.
