Qld to trial new way to calculate betting

Sunday 17 January 2016, 10:04am

Racing Queensland will trial a new method to assess accurate betting fluctuations and starting prices at non-metropolitan meetings.

Instead of the prices being determined by combining corporate and on-course bookmakers, the fluctuations will come from one source, usually UBET Fixed Odds, for Queensland meetings.

Chief steward Allan Reardon said the trial would run for the full month of February.

"Basically we have many meetings where there might be one or two bookmakers on course. We want to get prices which better reflect the betting on the race," Reardon said.

"It will not be on metropolitan meetings on Wednesday and Saturday. But for instance it would come into play on meetings like last Thursday at Mackay or Dalby on Saturday.

"At this stage it is just a trial but if successful we will implement it full time."
