Another two-year-old from the Godolphin team has stamped his mark on debut but whether Tessera is a Golden Slipper hope remains to be seen.

Sheikh Mohammed's operation already has Astern and Calliope, two of the top four in markets for the $3.5 million Group One race in March.

Capitalist from the Peter and Paul Snowden stable remains the dominant favourite but the challengers are expected to step out in the next few weeks.

Tessara ($5.50) led all the way in Saturday's 2YO Plate (1100m) with his task made easier when the favourite Mount Panorama ($1.95) missing the start.

"We put blinkers on him after he trialled well in them," trainer John O'Shea said.

"He will improve further for that run and will be back in a fortnight for the Canonbury (Stakes).

"Just where he sits, we'll find out after that."

The colt is by Darley stallion Medaglia D'Oro, the sire of last year's Golden Slipper winner Vancouver.

"He would have gone another furlong (200m)," jockey James McDonald said.

"It was a very good win."

Tessera beat My Country ($6) from the Snowden stable by a neck with Canny Rocket ($19) leading the chasing pack, another 2-1/2 lengths away.

Mount Panorama picked up some ground to finish sixth.

Canny Rocket's third ended the day for Tye Angland who was stood down after aggravating a lower back problem.

Earlier the Snowdens sent out Snippets Land ($8) to win the opening race on the program over 1600m.

With stable apprentice Winona Costin bringing him in with 53kg compared to the 57.5kg and 62.5kg he carried when unplaced at his previous two starts.

"That made a huge difference," Peter Snowden said.

"I didn't think his last run was too bad but everything was right for him today - the soft track, the 1600 metres and the weight."
