Star apprentice James Orman has high hopes of ending the Brisbane summer carnival with another stakes winner when he is reunited with former country galloper Victory Hotel on Saturday.

Orman, who is leading both the metropolitan and Queensland senior riders premierships, has another strong book of mounts including Victory Hotel in the $175,000 Listed Bernborough Handicap (1615m) at Doomben.

The junior rider won this year's Rockhampton Cup on Victory Hotel when the gelding was trained by Darryl Gardiner.

Victory Hotel has since been transferred to Caloundra's Trevor Miller, a long-time trainer for the horse's central Queensland-based owners Brian and Alwyn Durrington.

At his first run back from a spell, Victory Hotel defeated Jumbo Prince in an open handicap at Doomben and has had no luck at his two runs since then, including his last-start sixth to Traveston Girl in the Brisbane Handicap.

Miller said Victory Hotel was overdue for some luck and he believed Orman would suit the horse.

"He is in form and he has won on Victory Hotel. The horse certainly hasn't gone backwards since his last run," Miller said.

"I think his best distance is at the 1600 metres as he has won three times at the trip."

Orman, who celebrated his first stakes win on Sold For Song in the Gold Edition Plate last Saturday, also believes Victory Hotel will be hard to beat.

"It is good to get back on him and he ran the 1600 metres out strongly when we combined to win the Rocky Cup in the winter," he said.

Orman has also picked up the ride on consistent stayer Uno Five in the Garrards Horse And Hound Open Hcp (2200m).

"Uno Five should be hard to beat as we get in under the limit with my claim and he has been second at his past three starts," Orman said.

Uno Five's trainer Bruce Hill is a big fan of Orman and uses him when he can.

"He is a senior-standard jockey with a 1.5 kilogram claim and that is a big advantage," Hill said.

It will be the start of a busy two weeks for Orman who expects to ride at about a dozen meetings during the holiday period.

"Hopefully, I will get a bit of turkey on Christmas Day but not too much else," he said.
