Boston Light nursing his wounds

Sunday 27 September 2015, 3:27pm

Promising colt Boston Light's spring is over with the three-year-old needing at least three months to recover from injury.

Trainer Bryce Heys was aiming high, hoping he could get Boston Light to the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes.

But the dream was shattered when Boston Light was injured in the Group Two Danehill Stakes.

An unlucky debut fifth in Listed grade at Moonee Valley in August, Boston Light finished 10th in the Danehill on September 12 and came out of the race battered and bruised.

"He got stripped, came back to scale with his tongue over the bit and has pulled up with a severe gluteal muscle tear," Heys said.

"It was straight to the paddock and then start again.

"He was disappointing on face value but I suggest we will forgive him and he will keep for another day."

Heys said the gluteal muscle tear would require time to heal but is hopeful the colt can make a return to racing in the autumn.

"It's a time thing," Heys said.

"He'll probably have three months out until we bring him back into work.

"They're very tricky injuries."

The Sydney trainer was out of luck on Saturday with the other colt he took to Melbourne, Spieth, who finished seventh in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) won by Bon Aurum.

The race was won by Bon Aurum with Spieth just 1-3/4 lengths from the winner after coming from the tail of the field.

Spieth holds entries to the Blue Sapphire and Darley Classic later in the spring carnival.
