Amelie's Star keeps rising with G3 victory

Saturday 26 September 2015, 2:51pm

In less than two months, Amelie's Star has gone from victory in a Hawkesbury maiden to Group Three winner at Rosehill.

The mare beat a field of seasoned stayers to win Saturday's Colin Stephen Quality (2400m), putting 3-1/4 lengths on Bohemian Lily with Reigning third.

While many of her rivals have other big targets in store this spring, Amelie's Star's rise through the ranks has surprised her trainer Peter Moody who has not looked further ahead.

Clare Cunningham, who oversees Moody's Sydney operation, says the mare has done more than expected.

"We didn't know how good she was," Cunningham said.

"The Sydney stable is only small so we've got nothing to gallop against her to compare her to.

"I ride her work and I'm very lucky to have her up here.

"I don't know what Pete will do with her. It depends how she takes this run because she was a bit wound up after her last win."

Amelie's Star brought up the second leg of a winning double for Josh Parr who earlier rode the John Sargent-trained Mr One Eleven to victory in a benchmark handicap.

"She makes my job so easy," he said.

"That was impressive. She's gone up in grade and up in weight.

"I'm not one to get ahead of myself but she has the makings of a really good stayer."

Cunningham said if the mare did go on with her campaign there were probably races in Melbourne to suit.
