Ninth Legion skips Gr 1 for Shannon Stakes

Friday 25 September 2015, 6:52am

Dual acceptor Ninth Legion will miss the Group One Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield to run in Sydney.

"He's been in Sydney all along but we left it up to the owners to decide whether to bring him to Melbourne or keep him there," co-trainer Wayne Hawkes told RSN.

Ninth Legion is pressing for favouritism in Saturday's Shannon Stakes at Rosehill.

The six-year-old resumed with a placing behind Winx in the Theo Marks Stakes when involved in a three-way finish.

He could form part of an extended Hawkes Racing team for the Epsom Handicap.

Last-start Group One placegetter Entirely Platinum is aimed at the $1 million mile while Messene and God's In Him are also possibilities, depending on how they run in the Shannon.
