American Pharoah in strong work-out

Wednesday 23 September 2015, 7:11am

Triple Crown champion American Pharoah has had his first official work-out since finishing second in the Travers Stakes last month.

The three-year-old colt has galloped a half-mile (800m) in 49.80 seconds at Santa Anita where he is based in the stable of trainer Bob Baffert.

Jockey Martin Garcia, who handles American Pharoah in the mornings, was aboard.

After spending the summer at Del Mar north of San Diego, American Pharoah returned to Santa Anita earlier this month.

He has trained on the track daily in preparation for his final career start in the $US5 million ($A7.06 million) Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland on October 31.

He will stand at Coolmore's Ashford Stud next year.
