Oliver to ride Snow Sjy in Caulfield Cup

Tuesday 22 September 2015, 6:17pm

Damien Oliver has been booked to ride Snow Sky in next month's BMW Caulfield Cup.

Sir Michael Stoute's four-year-old must shoulder topweight on October 17, but his new rider was left enthused by the colt's impressive Hardwicke Stakes victory at Royal Ascot.

"He was a very impressive winner at Royal Ascot winning the Hardwicke Stakes, and that's usually a high-class race," Oliver said

"I was actually over there (Royal Ascot) for the running of that race this year and there were some very good horses in the race and it was quite a tactical race.

"He looks a pretty impressive type of horse and it's a very exciting opportunity."

Oliver, who has won four Caulfield Cups, but none since the 1999 edition when he rode Sky Heights to victory will once again look to equal Scobie Breasley's record of winning the race five times.

Snow Sky also holds an entry in the Emirates Melbourne Cup, for which he has been allotted joint topweight alongside last year's winner Protectionist.
