Gailo Chop wins Cox Plate lead-up

Saturday 19 September 2015, 9:16am

Gailo Chop has confirmed he is on track for the Cox Plate with his win in the Group Three La Couple de Maisons-Laffitte.

Trained by Antoine de Watrigant for Australia's OTI Racing, Gailo Chop was a comprehensive winner over Al Waab and Ectot, making amends for his unplaced run in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot.

"What delighted me most was how much more relaxed he was today, even in the parade ring beforehand, which is a very good sign ahead of his trip to Australia," de Watrigant told the Racing Post.

"He will go into quarantine in Newmarket next Thursday and will arrive in Australia on October 10.

"The objective is the Cox Plate and after he runs down there he will be coming back to me in France next season."

Gailo Chop is a $17 chance with the TAB for the Cox Plate on October 23 at Moonee Valley.
