Group One-placed Disposition has returned to racing in the style his new trainer Lee Freedman expected with victory at Flemington.

The four-year-old resumed in Saturday's Listed The Sofitel over 1400m and the well-supported $2.25 favourite never really looked in any danger in the straight as he went on to win by a length over the closing Akavoroun with Pressing three-quarters of a length away third.

After settling better than midfield with cover, Disposition cruised up to the frontrunners early in the straight and sprinted to the lead passing the 300m.

Freedman noted Disposition got a bit tired over last 100m in his first start since April but knows there's improvement to come for the gelding he described as high-class as he heads to Group One targets.

"He did what I hoped I would see because he's shown me things that only good horses show you," Freedman said.

"And he will gain in fitness from that which will be important going forward."

Disposition won stakes races in Perth and was a close second in the Group One Kingston Town Classic (1800m) last December before owner Bob Peters transferred the gelding to trainer Wez Hunter in Victoria.

Disposition raced twice for Hunter during the autumn, including a second to Wandjina in the CS Hayes Stakes.

The horse was then transferred to Lee and Anthony Freedman so he could remain being trained at the Pinecliff property on the Mornington peninsula when Hunter moved to stables at Mornington racecourse.

Freedman said the Group One Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) was the likely next target in two weeks before the Group One Toorak Handicap (1600m).

"They're the right races for him," jockey Damien Oliver said.
