Albonetti has enhanced her chances of making it to richer spring races with her win at Flemington.

The country South Australia-trained mare holds a nomination for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups and Saturday's win in the Sofitel Girls' Day Out Handicap (2500m) will improve her rating.

But trainer Sue Jaensch realises the stayer still needs to win a better race.

A win in the Bart Cummings (2500m) at Flemington on October 4 will guarantee a start in the Melbourne Cup while success in the Herbert Power Stakes at Caulfield on October 10 will force a passage into the Caulfield Cup.

Ridden by Dwayne Dunn, Albonetti ($7.50) scored a two-length win over Sir Mako ($9) with Crafty Cruiser ($11) three quarters of a length away third.

Albonetti was having the fifth start of her campaign and landed her first win in more than a year.

The mare injured a shoulder when Chad Schofield was dislodged in last year's Moonee Valley Cup.

"She did a crushing-like injury to a shoulder and damaged a tendon," Jaensch said.

"She couldn't play around, she couldn't canter, she couldn't do anything.

"It's been about eight or nine months now and she's needed to get her confidence back."

Jaensch and Dunn have had a long association, going back to when Dunn was an apprentice in Adelaide.
