Secret Agenda will be set for black-type sprints

The three-year-old snapped the bone in half when she was galloped on in the Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies at Caulfield in February.

Trainer Mick Price was thrilled by Secret Agenda’s raw ability in winning The Grand Hotel Frankston Handicap (1200m) at Sandown on Wednesday.

Secret Agenda won her first start by 3½ lengths at Moonee Valley and went into her second, the Prelude, as a $4.20 fancy.

Price said he thought the filly was a bit “tubby” going into Wednesday’s race after two trials.

“It was more the horse’s ability that got her to win rather than being trained first-up for anything.

“But I suppose drawing an inside gate (two) and just being able to do no work — but she is really a smart filly,” he said. “I have got some nice plans for her in stakes races coming, but I was just happy to kick her off here.”

Next on her agenda is the Group 3 Champagne Stakes (1200m) for three-year-old fillies at Moonee Valley on September 25.

Price said he was happy to keep Secret Agenda to sprint distances as she didn’t give him the impression she was a 1600m horse.

He said she would become a valuable brood mare if she could win stakes races.

“It’s only start No. 3 and she has the spring in front of her and she should improve a lot. She just has to ease back into it. But there should be plenty of options for her — three-year-old fillies and an open three-year-old race wouldn’t worry me.”

Jockey Craig Newitt was also impressed with the filly’s performance and said she showed plenty of dash when a gap opened up on the fence.

“I put them away and she really ran through the line,” Newitt said.

Secret Agenda ($5.50) scored a one-length win from Spieth ($6.50). John O’Shea’s $3.30 favourite Moher beat only one runner home.
