Noonan happy to be back on Setinum in G1

Friday 28 August 2015, 3:48pm

Things have worked out in Jake Noonan's favour this week with the jockey to reunite with Setinum in the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield.

Noonan won the Listed Bendigo Guineas on Setinum during the autumn and was looking forward to continuing his association with the gelding after trialling him this month.

But he had to forfeit the ride on Setinum first-up in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes because he was unable to make 54kg.

Dwayne Dunn partnered Setinum to a first-up win.

Noonan contacted trainer Shane Fliedner hoping to be able to get back on Setinum, and as things have turned out he gets that chance in the Group One feature on Saturday.

Dunn is aboard Hawkes Racing's Entirely Platinum while the ride on Setinum came up for grabs when Damian Lane failed to have a careless riding suspension overturned.

"A lot of luck went my way this week," Noonan said.

"Dwayne Dunn had another offer and he chose that. They went with Damian Lane and he didn't get off on his appeal.

"Hopefully the luck can keep rolling my way on Saturday."

Noonan believes the 1400 metres of the Memsie is the horse's best distance and is hoping the benefit of one start under his belt will help against a high quality field.

"There's no doubt the quality of the field is definitely going to test him and his ability but he's in good form," Noonan said.

"He's come back in great order. He's got a bit of residual fitness on his side and that's definitely going to play into his favour.

"There's no reason why he hasn't earned the chance to have a shot in a Group One."
