Curran hoping for better Valley experience

Thursday 20 August 2015, 4:55pm

Danny Curran's last trip to Moonee Valley is one he would like to forget.

He had his promising filly The Big Dance collapse post-race, which sent a shock through the stable.

Curran returns to the course with Written Dash, who will line-up in the Dr Sheahan Plate (1200m) on Saturday.

Written Dash provided the Bendigo-based trainer with the biggest win of his career when successful in the Group Three Typhoon Tracy Stakes at Moonee Valley back in February.

However the daughter of Written Tycoon has since lost her way, finishing well back at her three subsequent starts, although Curran said there were excuses for her first-up effort in the Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on July 25.

"She ran in the Bletchingly and got knocked over at a critical stage," he said.

"She's a lot fitter now and against that (mares) company on Saturday we'd be expecting her to be competitive."

Curran said he's hoping the predicted rain stays away and the soft six rated track will continue to improve.

"She's a dry track horse and the question is whether the track is going to be wet," he said.

"If the rain doesn't come then she'll be thereabouts."

Curran doesn't hold any long-term plans with the four-year-old, just hoping the mare can return to winning form and get her confidence back.

He said each race Written Dash has during the campaign will tell him a bit more about the mare.

"The four-year-olds have to show where they are at as they take on older horses," Curran said.

"She needs to get some confidence back and then we can take her through the steps and who knows where that may end up."
