A return to Caulfield and the removal of blinkers has sparked a form revival from Our Voodoo Prince.
The Chris Waller-trained gelding produced his trademark fighting spirit to claim the Anzac Hcp (2000m) on Saturday, his first victory since he took out the Easter Cup over the same course and distance in April 2014.
Ridden by James Winks, Our Voodoo Prince ($7.50) scored a short half-head win over At First Sight ($6) with $2.90 favourite Diametric a long head away third.
Winks rode Our Voodoo Prince when he accounted for Akzar and Stipulate in the Easter Cup and predicted a bright future for the horse.
The gelding was high up in early Caulfield Cup markets on the strength of that victory but his spring form last year didn't warrant a start in the 2400m race.
"I marked him a star after he won the Easter Cup here a couple of years ago," Winks said.
"But with horses things can go wrong but you can never take their ability away.
"The owners and the stable have stuck with him and changed a few things around and taking the blinkers off, he was back to his old self."
Connections of Our Voodoo Prince now have to decide whether to put the gelding through the sales ring on Friday.
"It's very good for the owners to get that last hurrah if they're still going to sell him," Waller's Melbourne stable representative Justine Hailes said.
Last season's Geelong Cup winner Caravan Rolls On pulled up lame in the right front suspensory at his first run back since he was unplaced in the Lexus Stakes at Flemington last spring.
