Ellawisdom to turn the tables at Doomben

Friday 7 August 2015, 10:44am

Trainer Trevor Thomas has warned punters to take no notice of Ellawisdom's seemingly poor record at Doomben.

Ellawisdom, who has won her past two starts in great fashion on the big Sunshine Coast circuit, takes on open company in Saturday's 1350m Brisbane Centre For Pain Management Handicap .

The mare has had four starts at Doomben and is yet to run a place.

However, Thomas is far from concerned by the seemingly damning statistic.

"It is an example of how statistics can be misleading. We had never started her at Doomben until Eagle Farm was closed last year," Thomas said.

"Her first go at Doomben was over 1000 metres and she ran one of the fastest final sectionals I can remember when she rattled home to be fourth."

"At her next start she ran into trouble and finished a close-up fifth. Then as happens with her she was a bit flat in a race won by the leader."

"Ellawisdom's only other start at Doomben was in the Juanmo Stakes where she was making a strong run at the 200 metres and got severe interference."

He said for that reason he was far from worried about the mare at Doomben.

"In fact if things had gone to script she would have won three races there and you would be saying she is a Doomben specialist," he said.

Thomas had considered taking Ellawisdom to Randwick on Saturday for a benchmark race but decided to stay home.

"I was all ready to go and then at the last minute I got cold feet," he said.

"She isn't a great traveller and if I had a 13 hours trip in a float to Sydney and then she wasn't right it would be a waste."

"But I am still convinced she is up to winning a good race and that she would be competitive in Sydney."
