Bannerot charges into winner's circle

Wednesday 29 July 2015, 2:03pm

Wendy Bannerot confirmed her reputation as a miracle worker with injury-prone gallopers by training a double at the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday.

Bannerot, who mixes training with equine rehabilitation at her Sunshine Coast complex, led in Smoothnavigator ($17) and Laugh A Little ($9).

First starter Smoothnavigator, who cost $45,000 at last year's Gold Coast ready to run sales, wanted to hang on the turns but proved too strong in the Local News three-year-old Plate (1000m).

Bannerot said Smoothnavigator had a whole in a tendon when she took over his training.

"The staff have put a lot of work into him to get him ready to race and it is great to see him winning," she said.

Jockey Robbie Fradd said Smoothnavigator was green but might go on to win better races.

Fradd also won on Laugh A Little who got up on the rails to score a driving win.

Bannerot said Laugh A Little had also overcome a few leg problems after failing as a two-year-old when in Sydney.

"We went to Sydney to buy her and we've again had to take our time with her," she said.

"We give them time and don't rush them."

Meanwhile, jockey Tim Bell, who won a race in Singapore on Sunday, predicted a bright future for Comic Story ($2.40) who won the XXXX Gold Australian Pale Ale Maiden (1200m).

"Now he has won a race he might go on to be a Saturday horse," Bell said.

Comic Story was another winner for trainer Gillian Henrich as she rebuilds her team following her battle with bowel cancer.
