Country NSW meetings cancelled

Monday 27 July 2015, 7:25am

Wet weather in NSW has forced the cancellation of two country meetings, frustrating Greg Ryan's attempts to reach a career milestone.

After a double at Gilgandra on Saturday, the prolific bush jockey is on 3319 winners, three short of the late Jack Thompson's mark.

Robert Thompson, no relation to Jack Thompson, passed the tally in July 2008 and is now well beyond 4000.

Sunday's meeting at Quirindi was called off and Warren on Monday suffered the same fate.

While Thompson frequently travels interstate to ride, Ryan mostly plies his trade in western NSW and has ridden 111 winners this season.

Ryan's next chance to add to his tally will be at Tamworth on Friday.
