Phillip Stokes is in the box seat to finish as the leading trainer of metropolitan winners in Adelaide for the second straight season but it's his interstate success which gives him the most satisfaction.
Stokes heads into the final city meeting of the season in Adelaide on Saturday two wins in front of the Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas partnership, and 2-1/2 ahead of Tony McEvoy.
Stokes said clinching another premiership would be nice but ranks behind his eight city winners from 21 starters in Melbourne this season.
He was the equal leading trainer with Chris Waller during the four-day Melbourne Cup carnival at Flemington with four winners including Hucklebuck in the Group One Emirates Stakes.
"As much as it would be nice to win another premiership, I'm probably more thrilled with what we've done in Melbourne," Stokes said.
"Equal leading trainer of the (Melbourne Cup) carnival, 12 runners at Flemington for six winners during the season and a few placings.
"I'm really rapt with the way we've been placing the horses and travelling them over there, and if they haven't been winning they've been very competitive."
Stokes can't add any more Melbourne wins this season after scratching two-year-old One For One from Saturday's David Hopwood Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield.
But he has five runners at Morphettville and believes he can add to his Adelaide tally with his best chance considered to be two-year-old Miss Gunpowder, favourite in the Irish Race Day 29th August Handicap (1100m).
Stokes is also striving to bring up the 50th stakes win of his career and he could tick that off as soon as Saturday if Caro Kann is able to win the Listed Lightning Stakes.
