The licensing of vets in NSW will be delayed for a month with Equine Veterinarians Australia and the governing body in discussions to resolve outstanding issues.
The EVA, a special interest group of the Australian Veterinary Association, has been opposed to the licensing of vets but says it is now working with Racing NSW.
"Both parties have agreed to work together on documentation that will clearly establish the protocols that will apply to veterinarians working with racing thoroughbreds," an EVA statement said.
"Racing NSW will defer the implementation of Local Rule 82C until 1 September 2015 with respect to veterinarians practising with metropolitan racing stables.
"There will be an additional 2-3 month extension for veterinarians practising in country and provincial racing stables.
"Racing NSW and Equine Veterinarians Australia are committed to working together to preserve the integrity of the racing industry in NSW, while also ensuring that the professional obligations of veterinarians are not compromised."
Racing NSW chief executive Peter V'landys said a recent meeting between the two bodies had been positive and he was confident of an agreement by September 1.
