Walker back from injury with Pakenham win

Thursday 23 July 2015, 4:09pm

Michael Walker has returned to winning form after an injury-enforced lay-off, guiding Redoute's Princess to victory at Pakenham.

Walker was sidelined with a prolapsed disc and made a low-key return to riding at the same venue on Tuesday.

He had two rides at Bendigo on Wednesday and Thursday's winner was his second ride for the day.

Walker returned to New Zealand to recuperate from a crippling back injury that resulted in him being stood down from riding at Mornington on June 8.

He returned for one ride at Moonee Valley on June 20 and was sidelined again.

"I've been pretty lucky throughout my career as I'm not a jockey that loses fitness," Walker told Racing Live.

"I'm feeling a bit stiff and the legs are burning a bit, but I'm happy with where I'm at.

"The body feels good."

Walker said he was around 90 per cent fit and still ring-rusty after spending a month on the sidelines.

He has a busy period ahead with three rides at Geelong on Friday, two at Caulfield on Saturday and five at Wodonga on Sunday.

Walker sits second on the Victorian jockeys' premiership table with 128 winners, eight behind leader Dean Yendall.
