Trainer Darren Bell almost ran out of breath when he listed the problems his rising six-year-old mare Kissed by Destiny had before recording her first win on Wednesday.
Kissed By Destiny ($3.50) was having only her second start when she won the Crown Golden Ale Hcp (1200m) at Doomben.
Bell was especially thrilled by the win as the mare's owners Maggie and Dave Levy have stuck by the mare through many problems.
'I am genuinely happy for them. They bred Kissed By Destiny and raced her mother and sister."
"I know you don't see many rising six-year-old mares win their first race but how long have you got, she has had her share of problems."
"She was shin sore early and then developed soreness in her back legs. When we finally got her ready for a campaign she was a barrier rogue.
"We sent her down to Tony Crane at Beaudesert and he finally got her to go in the barriers," Bell said.
Trainer Rob Heathcote's decision to train staying-bred horses again paid off when the aptly named Grobbelaar ($4.60) won the Keno Classic Hcp (2200m).
"He is by the sire Keeper and is named after Bruce Grobbelaar, the former Liverpool goalkeeper. He is a young stayer on the up," said Heathcote who has won races with six restricted class stayers this season.
